Writing Prompt #1
Think back
on some of the things that you did last year as a freshman. Identify one thing that you feel that
you were not successful in. What can you
do this year to fix that?

- “This year, I am going to put effort into all of my classes and be honest with myself about how hard I am trying.”
- “I knew if I tried harder, I would have gotten an A.”
- “I need to go to college.”
- “I could set my alarm or go to sleep early so that I can wake up early.”
- “I plan on trying my best this year and making sure I keep it up in the years to come.”
- “The thing was….I was lazy.”
- “I always forgot to bring my PE shirt and shorts.”
- “I did it all last second.”
- “I procrastinated a lot in my freshman year.”
- “But the one thing that affected me the most was not asking for help or communicating with teachers and my counselors…”
- “ I am going to try harder to pass my classes by doing my classwork, study, and participate.”
- “As a freshman, I just played too much.”

- “This year, my friend and I are going to stay afterschool to finish our homework because we get too distracted at home.”

- When you’re in school, you have to keep your things organized in order for you to not forget any of your work.”
- “Last year, I would always be lost and didn’t understand what a lesson was about or what we reviewed that day.”
- “I didn’t care about 9th grade because I thought it wouldn’t affect anything. Now, seeing my report card, I regret it because I will not be able to graduate on time.”
- “I committed to my parents and myself that I will do my best this year and get good grades. It is true how my teacher stated that it is a fresh start for everyone and we can do it. I’m happy and positive for this new year!”
